Using session categories

Using session categories

Invitario allows you to create your own session categories and to assign sessions to one or several categories. This allows you to group sessions in a meaningful way in order to limit the sessions displayed in session-choice menus on the form or the session calendars.

Integrating session categories

  1. On the form:
Adding a session-choice menu to the registration form allows you to limit the sessions being shown to guests for selection.
Example: Your event includes a number of workshops on a topic A, topic B and topic C. Create a session category for each of the three workshop topics and assign the different sessions to the relevant category. You can then add three session-choice menus to the registration form and assign each of them to one of the three topic categories. This means that each of the three session-choice menus will only show the sessions assigned to the relevant topic category (A, B or C).
  1. Into the session calendar:
When creating session calendars under > Website or as > Dynamic content, you can limit the sessions being displayed in the calendar to one or several categories. You can also group sessions into categories, i.e. allow guests to search for sessions by category in the session calendar.
Example 1: Your event includes a number of workshops on a topic A, topic B and topic C, and you have created three corresponding session categories and assigned the relevant sessions to them. These sessions can now be shown as groups of sessions for each of the different topics (A, B and C).

Example 2: Your event includes a number of consultation slots on three different topics (A, B and C), and you have created three corresponding session categories and assigned the relevant slots (=sessions) to them. Guests will now be able to use filters in the session calendar to search for free slots on each of the three topics (A, B and C).

Adding and managing session categories

  1. To create a session category, click on the   “+ Session” symbol.
  2. To edit existing session categories, click on the category name or on “Edit” in the quick menu.
  3. To delete session categories, use the “Delete” button in the quick menu or in the “Select action” menu. Please note that it is only possible to delete a session category when it is not in use.
Adding new sessions categories:
  1. Enter a name for the session category. When doing so, do not use any commas and semicolons.
  2. Bear in mind that the session category names may be used as group headers on the website in the session calendar or as filter names.
  3. You can also select colours for the session categories to make them easier to distinguish in the backend. You can also apply the session category colours to the event calendar on the website. Click on the “Colour” field to open the colour picker or enter the relevant Hex colour code in the field.
  4. If you would like to add a session category to several sessions in bulk, select the relevant action from the “Select action” menu.
You can also create new session categories when creating or editing a session, or when bulk-processing sessions. These session categories will all have the same default colour. Session category colours can only be defined on this page.
To delete a session, select “Delete” from the “Select action” menu. Please note that it is only possible to delete a session if it is not being used in a target group or app configuration, or has been registered for by guests.

To return to the session list, click on the “Session list” button or on > Sessions in the menu on the left.

Assigning session categories
